Real Women of Science

Not that Marie Curie wasn't important, because she was, but she wouldn't have been Marie Curie if there weren't other women who came before her to pave the way. They may not be household names, but they are just as deserving of a Google Doodle for their birthdays.

Here is a quick list of 10 female scientists you should know. Compiled by the Smithsonian.


And to celebrate all these awesome women and their influences, I am going to go blow stuff up later with some Girl Scouts from District X. Because nothing beats blowing stuff up for the sake of science.

And as always, children, safety third.* 





*Okay. I may have been watching too many episodes of Rocket City Rednecks to motivate my Physics homework. I blame their adorable Southern accents.

It is an interesting article, of course - I wonder, though, at what this Rocket City Rednecks is about. Should I be worried?

Rocket City Rednecks is amazing. It's about these guys from Huntsville, Alabama who all work at NASA as rocket scientists and the like, but on the weekend they go home and they try and build crazy awesome stuff. Like spy satellites, or a whiskey still to make moonshine rocket fuel. Or figure out what would really save us from a big space rock entering Earth's orbit and killing us all.

And the best part is that they use stuff that they just found around. Like a moon buggy made from bicycle frames. And they are just almost every stereotype of a backwoods hillbilly, except they have like PhDs and above Top Secret Clearance.

I am all for blowing stuff up - is this like Coke and Mentos or something more interesting?

It's actually Diet Coke and Mentos because you need the aspartame to lower the surface tension and make for bigger eruptions.

Oh no. That experiment is too overdone. We will be blowing up film canisters, making fruit skin fireballs, and using the sun to start a fire (maybe, it might not be sunny enough). All for the good of education and stuff.
